Acute Medical Unit (AMU): Bedside Teaching

LOCATION: AMU, B Level

KEY CONTACT:
Dr Ahmed Arefin, Consultant in Acute Medicine
Email: ahmed.arefin@nhs.net

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
AMU is the acute assessment bay for the newly admitted medical patients, accepting patients mainly from GP and A&E referrals.  The acute medical cases represent the hard core of acute and emergency medicine and it is very relevant for your stage of training, so it is strongly recommended that you get involved.

WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE/DO AT THE UNIT:
On AMU, you will be able to see and get involved in the acute medical cases e.g: shortness of breath, chest pain, falls & collapse, acute confusion/delirium, stroke, headaches and many other acute medical conditions.

You will report to AMU at 2pm for small group bedside teaching with the Consultant/SpR and the opportunity to clerk and present cases.
