BRIEF DESCRIPTION - WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE/DO AT THE UNIT:
This placement will hopefully provide an opportunity to have a rare insight into the broad and diverse remit of Alcohol use, assessments and associated problems.

Initial assessments are carried out across the emergency pathway with a view to offering patients alternative community treatment options.

Patients who do require admission will have a comprehensive assessment of possible prescribing need; including detox medication.

Students may have the opportunity to attend a home visit as the ALT extend support in the community, where further assessment can be made of social need.

There are over 200 Alcohol related health problems, and this placement will help to enhance understanding of the complexity of issues faced for patients and healthcare professionals.
