Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department

The Oral and Maxillofacial (OMFS) Department in Rotherham has 2 Consultant OMFS Surgeons; Mr Patterson & and Miss Jandu. Mr Omar Hussain and Mr Ronald Lee are OMFS Surgeons based in Doncaster/Mexborough, but undertake theatre lists and cover Trauma & Emergencies in Rotherham.

LOCATION:
Clinics: Main Outpatients Department on C Level
Theatre sessions: Main theatres on B Level, or Day Cases in the Day Surgery Unit
In-patients – Ward B4
 
BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Referral into the Department is usually made via General Practitioner or Dental Practitioner. The Outpatient Department runs clinics and performs dental and OMFS Minor Operations throughout the week, with specialist Minor Operating Sessions every Tuesday for paediatrics.

Housed in the Outpatient Department is a comprehensive laboratory where all our prosthetics and implants are made. Specialist fitting and adjustment clinics are held regularly by our Prosthesis Consultant. 

The majority of elective and trauma surgery is done here at Rotherham General Hospital, with some day case surgery and minor operating surgery carried out at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Montagu Hospital. Head and Neck Cancer Surgery takes place at Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield.
 
There will be exposure to head and neck trauma and oncology including skin cancer, salivary gland pathology, deformity surgery and jaw joint dysfunction management. 
 
Medical student attached will gain experience in history taking, head and neck examination, ward work, operating theatre workings and suturing techniques.
