Services
The Urgent and Emergency Care Centre is very much the front door for most of the acute presentations entering the hospital. We see approximately 280 patients a day (over 100,000 patients a year).
The Department provides care to people suffering from injury or illness requiring urgent treatment. These are divided into Majors, Minors, Paediatrics and Primary Care. We are located on B level close to the Hospital Main entrance.
As a team of Consultants we have different interests that help towards the management of the department and hospital as a whole. We are all active supervisors for junior doctors as well as nurse practitioners.
Education
The Emergency Department exposes Medical Students to a vast variety of acute clinical presentations as well as offer an extensive list of practical skills during the four weeks placement. The students will be working a shift rota alongside a variety of clinicians where ‘one to one’ teaching will be provided. You will have the opportunity to improve your history presentation skill as well as the opportunity to gain confidence with essential practical skills.
The 8 week ACC programme includes Emergency Medicine and Anaesthetics which provides small group teaching sessions, simulation and skills sessions in the Education Centre.
