Acute Surgical Assessment Unit
LOCATION: Acute Surgical Unit, B Level, Junction 1 - Clinic is at the entrance to ASU before reception.
Wide variety of patients admitted via GP or A&E routes with acute conditions. The acute surgical cases represent the hard core of acute and emergency surgery and it is very relevant for your stage of training, so it is strongly recommended that you get involved.
WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE/DO AT THE UNIT:
You will attend the Assessment Clinic, take patient's histories and present to the Assessor of the day. If there is no Assessor available, you will report to the on-call team on the ward, attend post-take ward round with Consultants, accompany ANPs and IMT/F2/F1 doctors to clerk patients, opportunity to take a history and examine patients and ask if any patients need bloods, cannulas, ECGs etc.
