Labouratory Tours - Biochemistry & Blood Transfusion

BIOCHEMISTRY
​BRIEF OVERVIEW / WHAT YOU MIGHT SEE:

The Vascular Access Team are a small team whom cover the whole Trust for patients requiring/have access from cannulas to lines. You will be attached to a member of the VAT team who will be carrying out either: 
  • Cannulation - Shown the correct procedures and techniques to ensure that you are competent to then carry out practical. 
  • Surveillance – A chance to see different lines that are placed in patients and how we look after / manage them including dressing changes, taking blood cultures and bloods from them. 
  • Placing lines – Specialist nurses placing midlines and PICC lines. 
  • Ultrasound – Specialist nurses and TAPs using ultrasound to obtain bloods or place a cannula.

Whiston Suites, C Level, Junction 1 – the team move around the hospital so be sure to contact the extension number below to find their exact location on the day

DATES & TIME:
Mondays, 08:45 to 11:00, 13:30 to 15:30
Wednesdays, 08:45 to 11:00, 13:30 to 15:30
